Meet Our Community

A place to belong

Since its beginnings, the center has welcomed an engaged community of seniors. Many have been actively involved in the life and operation of the center, giving back to the community they love by volunteering.

Seniors say the center gives them “opportunities to be with friends and make new friends,” and describe it as “my therapy,” “the reason I get up every morning,” and “my second home.”

A history of community

It all began in 1979 when a group of Nicaraguan seniors asked for a room at 30th Street to start a senior club. Since then, seniors have been an integral part of the life and operations of the senior center.
